Step 1: Reference gathering.I begin with collecting reference material and place it on one of my monitors. The reference material I used was mostly amphibians (frogs) as well as a few see creatures. Step 2: Sketching/Drawing. I begin the sketching phase and am really just exploring what I want out of the creature design. I then lower the opacity and clean my sketch up and bit and solidify the drawing. Step 3: Value begins. I start my black and white painting (painting with value). This allows me to concentrate simply on the design of the creature itself without worrying about the colors. Step 4: Adding Colors. I use my Value painting to create different colors for my creature and use masks to paint the different colors away Step 5: Texture. I begin using texture to bring more life and realism to my creature. I only use brushes in this painting to create textures Step 6: Final Touches. This is when I use more adjustment layers to help bring out shadow, light and the vibrance of colors, along with any other issues I see in the painting
